Texture Mix

When I look at my shoe shelf, it’s 90% tan and 10% black and olive – clearly, I’ve got a thing for earth tones and neutrals. I feel like browns are such approachable hues and soften a wardrobe (I love black but sometimes feel like it comes across as too harsh and not feel quite as “me”), while also making it easier to mix and match for years to come.

Recently I’ve been stepping outside my comfort zone when it comes to styling and I love it. Wearing a summer handbag with a corduroy skirt (…a very wintery texture) and cozy sweater may not have been something I’d thought to do last year (…or perhaps that I thought was style faux pas?)…but last week I tried it on in the mirror, liked it and said, done! I’m working on dressing for me and wearing what I feel good in, regardless of what others may think or what’s seasonally acceptable in the fashion world…and I gotta say, it feels good!

Tiny Moments of Happiness

Artwork by Kimberlee.

As we enter the thick of January, I am holding my “word to live by in 2018” close to my heart – b a l a n c e. Which means focusing on the good in life and keeping my cool and taking deep breaths when I begin to feel overwhelmed. I’ve realized that there are SO many small moments of joy that take place throughout the day and it’s easy to take them for granted. But you know what? Those tiny moments of happiness sure do add up and bring a big smile to my face when I think about them.

I love how artwork can share an unspoken message, so my sister and LL contributor Kimberlee illustrated a few of our most beloved happy instances. From “me time” to motherhood (ohh that special bond between mother and child!) and something as simple as scoring a front row parking spot, here are a few of our favorites…

Our Patio Renovation Plans

livvyland-blog-olivia-watson-home-decor-update-polygal-patio-ideas-sliding-patio-doors-floor-ceiling-glass-panelsNew year, new projects for our little abode and we are especially excited about this one! Living in Austin means spending lots of time outdoors…so creating an inviting patio space is number one on our renovation list in 2018 – just in time for spring. Though the weather is freezing this week, Blake and I are daydreaming about warm, sunny days where we can leave the back doors wide open and Watson can run to and from the house…while we sip a cold beer and read a good book…can you tell we are SO ready for this?!

We have a wonderful contractor team making our dream patio renovation come to life (I’ll share more about who we are working with in the before/after reveal post) and it’s been so fun to scour Pinterest (and Google Images) to help visually explain the look we’re going for (…as seen above!). Our reno plans are moving along and it should all be completed in about a month…can’t wait to share more as we make some progress!

5 Ways To Wear: White Jeans

livvyland-blog-olivia-watson-austin-texas-fashion-blogger-mauve-blush-sweater-white-denim-peep-toe-booties-fall-outfit-idea-2Anyone else a fan of re-wearing items in your wardrobe over and over? (…and over…and over…umm me!). I was raised to treat my clothing with kindness so that it lasts a long time – being the baby of five kiddos meant we all went back to school shopping once throughout the year and that those clothes needed to last. I am thankful to my parents for teaching me to respect and care for my things…it makes me appreciate the wardrobe staples I purchase, and also encourages me to use the same piece and style it a ton of different ways.

One thing I see in the blogging world is the tendency to wear an outfit just once for a photo, then never again. The truth is, I have absolutely done this (…Blake and I are total homebodies, so if you see me wearing a dress it’s likely I snapped the photo to share the styling aspect, but put on jeans and a tee asap when I got home, ha!), but in reality most people rewear the same items of clothing all. the. time – and that is NORMAL! Thus, I have embraced that I rewear the same pieces over and over and I am excited to start a new series where I’ll share how I styled a certain item five different ways. Today’s topic: white skinny jeans! …and yes, you can definitely rock these after Labor Day.

Black, White & Camel

livvyland-blog-olivia-watson-austin-texas-fashion-blogger-j-crew-camel-winter-coat-striped-turtleneck-mid-calf-ankle-booties-1The color combination that always has me swooning: camel (#1), black and white (…preferably in striped form…). I am a firm believer that investing in timeless neutrals is always a great idea – and each of these pieces can be styled in various ways and worn for years to come! Also – did you notice I changed my hair color? Was feeling the itch for a big change, but am reaaaaally trying to grow it out again (…that struggle is real!). I am loving the darker color – excited to let the sun work it’s magic and bring out some honey highlights while I visit Australia next week, too. Going for the “sunkissed brunette” look after a few washes and some quality time at the beach!

Buuut back to this look…as it is currently 24 degrees and snowing in Austin today…coat weather, it is!

By Jessica Lee

It’s January, and though most of us won’t admit it, statistically-speaking it’s likely that we’re taking a long, hard look at our diets right now. The holidays bring delicious goodies and not a whole lot of leafy greens. Hey, that’s cool! It’s all about that magic word — balance. Let’s weigh out the bad with some good by way of a hearty kale salad with roasted delicata squash. It’s hella healthy and still tastes delicious. Seriously.

Fresh Beginnings in 2018

livvyland-blog-olivia-watson-road-illustration-timeline-map-2018-goals-content-ideasThis post has been on my brain for quite a while, but for some reason I’ve had trouble finding the right words to say. For so long I have been in a rhythm of bumping out fashion related posts and it took a moment for me (or really about a month) to step back and figure out what exactly I want this space to be. Over the holidays I did some serious soul searching about what makes me happy in life and in my work – and I’ve come to realize that since I started my blog back in 2014, what made me happy then is different from what makes me happy today.

75 Degree Winter

livvyland-blog-olivia-watson-levis-501-jeans-taupe-suede-ankle-booties-fall-outfit-4livvyland-blog-olivia-watson-levis-501-jeans-taupe-suede-ankle-booties-fall-outfit-2Hey there! How was your weekend? I spent mine bundled up on the sofa binge watching This Is Us (…and sobbing, a LOT obviously, ha! This show hits ya right in the feels…it’s soooo good!). True story: this is the first time I have ever binge watched a TV series when I am not sick and bed ridden…and it feels AMAZING. Clearly I have been living under a rock and missing out on a seriously fabulous form of r&r. Anyone else watching This Is Us? I’m excited for season 3 to start this week…I will definitely be watching!

In other news, this weekend was pretty darn lovely out and I guess Austin forgot we’re in the thick of “winter” because it was a gorgeous 75 degrees and sunny. If this is how the rest of winter is going to pan out, then I am all for it!

What I’m Adding to My 2018 Skincare Routine

livvyland-blog-olivia-watson-skincare-supergoop-daily-sunscreen-makeup-primer-unseen-beauty-1Hello friends! I don’t know about you, but I am feeling so revived as we to get a fresh start to 2018. Lots of new goals (…finish decorating the house, travel, read a new book each month) but also lots of lifestyle changes I am excited to add to the mix. For instance, Blake and I got gym memberships (we are the New Years cliché haha, buuut hey, the first step is actually getting the membership, so we’re onto something! 😉 ) and I’ve incorporated a simple step to my daily skincare routine that will not only help my skin in the long run, but protects it daily now!
